Carmel International Arts Festival – a Recap

Sep 28, 2010 by Hamilton County CVB

During the fall, Hamilton County, Indiana is taken over by festivals.  Whether it is arts, harvest, pumpkins or apples – the season is properly celebrated! Judy from the 8 Great Towns office spends many of her weekends out and about with her friends and family, experiencing the fun festivals – and then gives us great recaps to share.  Here is what Judy had to say about the 2010 Carmel International Arts Festival: [caption id="attachment_2632" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Photo from the Carmel Arts Festival website, 2009"][/caption] This past Saturday and Sunday were beautiful days to be outside, and to get out and get some fresh air. I gathered a group and we headed to the Carmel Arts & Design District for the weekend long International Arts Festival.  I was lucky enough to visit the festival BOTH days and had a great time. With over 140 vendors from all over the Midwest, there was a great selection of oil paintings, watercolors, and blown up black/white photographs.  There were artists who specialized in metals, and others who work with clay and fabrics. As we strolled around, I examined a lot of gorgeous jewelry made from gemstones, pearls and metals - they definitely had something for everyone. [caption id="attachment_2633" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Getting a first hand experience in creating art, photo from 2009 Festival"][/caption] To accompany the visual arts, live musical and dance performances were available on the various free stages.  Seating was arranged around each stage, which offered a nice break for those who needed a quick rest before continuing on with the event. The food was also something not to forget.  Local restaurants in the area were open and selling delicious treats.  Vendors were out, selling ribs, gyros, old fashion root beer, kettle corn and more.  The delightful food smells reminded me of the Indiana State Fair. The best part? I spent some money on a few great finds, but did not leave with an empty wallet!  Hope to see you all there in 2011. -Judy Erner, Community & Events Manager For more information on the Carmel International Arts Festival – and the other great fall festivals in the area - visit us at 8GreatTowns.com.
