Here is one more fun way to explore our 8 Great Towns whether you’re planning an Indiana getaway or if you live in town and are planning a staycation. Today's getaway destination is Carmel, Indiana. [caption id="attachment_3370" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Rent a bike in Carmel for the whole family for a trip along the Monon Trail"][/caption] Walk, bike, run, skate, rollerblade, skip . . .you can do it all on the all on The Monon Trail. The Monon is a 16-mile scenic trail that stretches from 161st street in Westfield all the way down to 10th street in Indianapolis.  The Carmel portion of the trail is from 96th to 146th street; the Westfield portion extends to 161st. Most people just jump on the trail along the way and start on their way north or south. You can travel at your own pace, enjoy a snack and even browse through shops on your journey. Since the trail travels through the Carmel Arts & Design district, there are plenty of boutiques and art galleries to choose from. In Carmel, you’ll pass The Monon Center, which features a water park and fitness center, and a few playgrounds too.  Check here for trail details like where to park and restroom locations or here for a map. If you prefer riding along the trail, the Carmel Cyclery will rent you a bike and the helmet and gear you need. You can rent a bicycle for an hour or for the entire day. You also can check out their GIANT wall map of the Monon while you are in the shop to plan your tour. After you’ve finished your travels, Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream in Carmel is a favorite place to stop and enjoy a cool treat.  They’re located right off the Monon at220 W. Main Street. Try one of their hand-dipped milkshakes. We always go for the chocolate or the cookies and cream, but you can choose from nine other flavors too. If you’re up for a meal, you can try to conquer the “Big Ugly�™ , a whopping 1-pound burger and you’ll get your picture on the wall. If you’re not up to that challenge, try the "Not so Ugly"  or the  “Settle for Less Ugly." They include the lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle, but you can add in other toppings like blue cheese or bacon for a little extra to make your own beautful burger. The Monon Trail is open every day, dawn to dusk. So check the weather report, grab your water bottle and get going!
