Have you watched in awe as someone paints a beautiful landscape or historic buildings? If not, now’s your chance to get some of the European glam right here in Hamilton County at the Nickel Plate Arts Weekend from June 3-5.  As part of the weekend, the Hamilton County Artists’ Association is sponsoring the 3rd Annual Gathering of Plein Air Painters.

Last year, the Gathering of Plein Air Painters brought over 50 artists to Hamilton County. Spectators are encouraged to interact with the artists during the competition, follow their progress, and discover their favorite new artist. I’ve personally never been to an art competition, so this is my chance to become cultured! Watercolors, acrylics, pastels, and oils—you name it, they’ll be painting with it! Artists will travel throughout Hamilton County to paint various outdoor scenes of the county’s landscape and buildings.  After the competition concludes on Sunday, June 5, there will be an awards ceremony and art sale. Come see which artist takes home the prize for Best of Show and purchase your favorite piece of artwork. Being able to see a painting from start to finish, meet the artists, and take home a masterpiece is something you don’t get to experience everyday. Who knows? You may even walk away with an original from the next Picasso!
