To the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Back on the WFMS FairTrain

Aug 11, 2011 by Hamilton County CVB

This week, our guest blogger/intern Trey Radcliff tells us a little about his family’s annual train ride to the Indiana State Fair. After days of planning, my family and I decided to go to the Indiana State Fair this past Monday. It has always been a tradition in my family to take the WFMS Fairtrain to the State Fair and this year we took some friends along.

As we boarded the train in Fishers, train conductors and volunteers from the Indiana Transportation Museum welcomed us and helped passengers onto the train and to their seats. The train was air-conditioned and very relaxing. We took our seats and started a little game of cards. Every one of the volunteers on the train was kind and caring for our needs as we took the half hour ride to the state fair. Along the way, people in cars stopped and waved at us as we passed by, and the train blew its whistle as we moved through the city. After a long day at the fair enjoying deep-fried foods and foot-long corndogs, our feet were aching with pain. It was nice to relax and unwind on the train back to Fishers. It was now dark outside, but the train was lit up with lights gleaming throughout coaches. We all shared stories of our favorite parts of the fair on the way back. And when I was asked my favorite part of the fair, I replied like always, “the train. The WFMS FairTrain has 10 round-trip train rides from Fishers scheduled every day of the Indiana State Fair, which runs through August 21. The cost for riding the train is $13 for ages 13 and up; $6 for kids 2 to 12, and free for children 2 and under. For a complete train schedule, go to www.itm.org, and be sure to follow the Indiana Transportation Museum on Twitter @ITMDispatcher for the latest FairTrain discounts and specials.
