Spanning 850 wooded acres in central Indiana, Conner Prairie welcomes more than 340,000 guests of all ages annually. Five outdoor, historically themed destinations and indoor experiential learning spaces combine history with science, technology, engineering and math and offer an authentic look into history that shapes society today.
Created by Eli Lilly in 1934, Conner Prairie combines history with science, technology, engineering and math and encourages visitors to explore Indiana’s natural and cultural heritage through hands-on, immersive and interactive experiences.
Indiana’s first Smithsonian Institute affiliate and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, Conner Prairie is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization that relies on grants and philanthropic donations from corporations and individuals for sustainability and growth.
Science, technology, engineering and math come together with history in a seamless, one-of-a-kind voyage through time, the 1859 Balloon Voyage. Get the chance to explore the history of manned flight, discover the rigors of airmail by balloon, and get a closer look at all the work required to lift a balloon into the sky. The culmination of this experience is the ability to step into the gondola of our tethered balloon, and be lifted 350 feet over Conner Prairie.
Central Indiana’s newest outdoor experience opened on July 1st. Treetop Outpost is a 6,000-square-foot destination nestled in woods that features a four-story treehouse. Surrounding the 45-foot-tall treehouse are experience areas that will allow visitors of all ages to investigate nature and its resources, dig in a re-created archaeology site, build like Hoosiers of the past, create art and fill the forest with music. Treetop Outpost also includes a 30-foot suspension bridge and a connecting Nature Walk that leads visitors through the woods and along the White River to a prairie lookout.
Treetop Outpost is an official Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project as part of the Bicentennial Nature Center Network, a statewide coalition created to ensure that all Hoosier youth have access to environmental education and creative outdoor experiences within 60 miles of where they live.
