It is with a heavy heart that we share one of our Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay torchbearers, James Neal, passed away yesterday at the age of 95.
Mr. Neal was the third generation to own, edit and publish the Noblesville Daily Ledger. His commitment to freedom of press prompted his induction to the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 1990.
Mr. Neal's grandson will carry the torch for him posthumously on Oct. 13. A few weeks ago, Mr. Neal was able to receive his torch uniform, which he proudly sported in this picture.
We send our thoughts and condolences to his family.
