Pursuant to Indiana Code 6-9-56 adopted during the 2023 Indiana General Assembly, the Hamilton County innkeepers tax will increase from 5% to 8% effective January 1, 2024 on all rentals under 30 days provided a final enabling ordinance is adopted by the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners in Fall 2023.
We wanted to alert you of this likely change as you plan for your 2024 sales initiatives.
Of this tax rate, 5% will continute to be used for the purposes of a convention, visitor and tourism promotions fund. And 3% will be used for a tourism capital improvement fund to provide support for projects that promote long-term tourism, convention or other economic development related to recreation. The goal is to support truly transformative projects to keep Hamilton County competitive in a fast-growing tourism development environment.
These important economic development tax dollars will continue to be collected at the local level by the Hamilton County Treasurer’s Office and due on the 20th of the month using the form available on the Hamilton County website.
