Big tournaments slated for 2015

Collegiate baseball players and youth softball players will converge on Hamilton County in a big way in 2015, thanks to new partnerships. Hamilton County will host the 2015 and 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball championships, which will bring eight teams from around the Midwest, including the University of Indianapolis and the University of Southern Indiana.

Also in 2015, nearly 300 softball teams will compete during the National Softball Association Championships in July. The tournament will play on 36 diamonds and bring with it thousands of players, coaches and fans.

VIPs to tour local venues

As summer sports wrap up, amateur sports organizers are gearing up for site selections for tournaments in 2015, and beyond. To show those organizers just what Hamilton County has to offer, the Hamilton County Sports Authority is organizing VIP tours this fall. Grand Park, the largest park in the country, is helping garner more interest in Hamilton County, but tours will reach far beyond the Westfield facility.

William Knox, Director of Hamilton County Sports Authority, said weekend site visits will include a variety of venues, including Grand Park, Billericay Park, Roundtripper Baseball Academy, Olio Fields, Cyntheanne Park, Best Choice Fieldhouse and a host of others.

“We’ll customize visits based on the organization’s needs,” Knox said. “Our goal is to show them a variety of Hamilton County’s high-caliber venues and also give them a taste of all that Hamilton County has to offer.”
