It’s a rite of passage for every kid from Indiana - that first taste of our state’s culinary history, the edges of deep fried crunchiness dangling past the bun. No self-respecting Hoosier parent would deny their children the chance to partake in this celebration of Midwest flavor. That’s why I recently set out to introduce my son to the venerable pork tenderloin sandwich.

I love a classic tenderloin sandwich as much as anyone. But sometimes, it’s nice to switch things up. Tons of Hamilton County restaurants are participating in Tenderloin Tuesdays, but just a few of them are plating up twists on the classic. Below are my picks for a few worth sampling.

The Great Tenderloin Debate

If there are three things Hoosiers love, it’s basketball, beer and the breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. The latter is a hot topic this time of year, as Hamilton County’s annual Tenderloin Tuesdays promotion puts local restaurants in the lunch plans of those craving the sandwich.

Everyone knows not to shop for food on an empty stomach, but I refuse to eat before making my weekly trip to the farmers market. It’s not willpower as much as mouth-watering anticipation of what’s ahead.
