Each year, Conner Prairie hosts "Indiana Festival" - a fun weekend spent celebrating the state.  This year, the festivities are taking place Saturday, June 5 through Sunday, June 6 - and Heather Richey from Conner Prairie was kind enough to send me a few details on this unique event.  Read below about what you'll see, food you will eat, who you will meet - and how HIGH (350 feet) you can go: [caption id="attachment_2144" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Getting messy at Conner Prairie's Indiana Festival!"][/caption] You and your family can discover Indiana's rich cultural heritage as you laugh, dance, stomp, sway and weave your way through this fun-filled weekend. Sample global tastes, sights and sounds from far off destinations. Immerse yourself in the diverse and wonderful music, art, dances and ethnic foods that make us who we are today. Bring the kids along to meet Maya & Miguel from PBS and enjoy the colorful display of artwork created for the Picture Indiana Youth Art Contest. On Saturday, Dr. David Baker, Artistic and Musical Director of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, an award-winning performer, composer and educator who has performed and taught all over the world will be present. He is also founder of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. Dr. Baker has numerous recordings and books, and has written more than 2,000 compositions. He has received impressive honors and awards, including the American Jazz Masters Award from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He is also a Grammy Award and Pulitzer Prize nominee. You can visit Dr. David Baker's website to see his full bio and to learn more about him and his music. Dr. David Baker will discuss and play recordings by some of the great jazz musicians who have come from Indianapolis, including Wes Montgomery, J.J. Johnson, Freddie Hubbard and Slide Hampton. He will also answer your questions at the end of his talk, followed by an autograph signing. On Sunday, you can meet Maya and Miguel Santos, 10-year old siblings from the PBS television show Maya and Miguel. They look forward to meeting you and posing for photos... don't forget your camera! Take part in the fun games and activities in the WFYI Kids Tent. You can also visit  WFYI.org to enter for a chance to win a Family 4-Pack VIP Balloon Flight with Maya & Miguel at Conner Prairie on June 6 at 10:30 am (weather permitting.) Visit the main stage for entertainment with a German focus on Saturday and a Mexican focus on Sunday! Stop by the Beer and Wine Tent for a taste of German and Mexican beers and assorted wines, then it's off to the food area for a variety of authentic, ethnic foods.
