The telltale chill of winter is in the air, but that doesn't mean you should hibernate for the cold months. With freezing temperatures and fresh powder come opportunities to skate, sled and tube in a magical winter wonderland in Hamilton County, Indiana. Here is a list of indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks and sledding and tubing hills in Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield and beyond.
Nestled between the Palladium and Tarkington theaters is central Indiana’s newest outdoor ice skating rink. The Ice at Center Green is located in the middle of the new Carmel Christkindlmarkt, an authentic European holiday market open through Christmas Eve. Reserve your 90-minute skate time at the designated hut. Bring your own ice skates or rent a pair for $3.
The outdoor ice rink at Federal Hill Commons in downtown Noblesville opens for the season mid-November.
The 3,200 square foot outdoor ice rink is made of a synthetic ice surface which allows for winter fun, no matter the temperature.
If you don’t want to ice skate outdoors, glide on over to the Carmel Ice Skadium or Fuel Tank at Fishers, two classic rinks with public skating available. Individuals of all ages and experience levels can hit the ice. For a twist, check out cosmic skating nights with special lighting and music.
Skating and Sledding
Strawtown Koteewi Park’s winter attraction opens December (weather permitting), Koteewi Run Seasonal Slopes. This is central Indiana’s only groomed snow tubing hill. Travel the length of more than two football fields down the hill and ride the tow line back to the top.
Grab your sled and head to Flat Fork Creek Park to enjoy the 60-foot sledding hill. Other local favorites include West Park in Carmel, Simon Moon Park in Westfield and Forest Park in Noblesville.
