The tell-tale chill of winter is in the air, but that doesn't mean you should hibernate for the cold months. With freezing temperatures and fresh powder come opportunities to skate, sled and tube in a magical winter wonderland.
Here is a list of indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks and sledding and tubing hills here in Hamilton County, Indiana - just north of Indy.
Nestled between the Palladium and Tarkington theaters is central Indiana’s newest outdoor ice skating rink. The Ice at Center Green is located in the middle of the new Carmel Christkindlmarkt, an authentic European holiday market open through Christmas Eve. Reserve your 90-minute skate time at the designated hut. Bring your own ice skates or rent a pair for $3.
Noblesville Ice Plaza at Federal Hill Commons
Noblesville’s urban park with the amphitheater, Federal Hill Commons, hosts the Noblesville Farmers Market in the summer. In the winter, glide on the new Ice Plaza, open through Jan. 8.
Get in the spirit at Friday themed nights and enjoy food trucks on the weekends.
If you don’t want to ice skate outdoors, glide on over to the Carmel Ice Skadium or Fuel Tank at Fishers, two classic rinks with public skating available. Individuals of all ages and experience levels can hit the ice. For a twist, check out cosmic skating nights with special lighting and music.
Sledding and Tubing
Strawtown Koteewi Park’s newest attraction opens Dec. 16, Koteewi Run Seasonal Slopes. This is central Indiana’s only groomed snow tubing hill. Travel the length of more than two football fields down the hill and ride the tow line back to the top.

Grab your sled and head to Flat Fork Creek Park to enjoy the 60-foot sledding hill. If conditions permit this winter, Fishers Parks & Recreation will host a “Sleddy” – inspired by the “Eddie” ultimate big wave surf tournament in Hawaii. The event only takes place if conditions are just right.
