Jennifer Stringer works with the Hamilton County Convention and Visitors Bureau on publications and social media. Most days Jennifer is well-grounded, but on Saturday at the Cicero Balloon Splash she'll be anything but! Everyone has their bucket list. I get to check riding on a hot air balloon off of my list this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Cicero Balloon Splash at the Morse Reservoir in front of Red Bridge Marina! Admittedly, I am a little nervous but I'm excited at the same time. But that's how doing the adventurous things on your bucket list is supposed to make you feel, right? So what's this latest bucket list adventure all about? Well, first I meet up with the balloon pilot and we take off into the clear blue yonder to get a birds-eye view of our 8 Great Towns. How high am I going? I don't know, and I don't think I want to know until I get back on the ground! According to Brett Morrow, one of the event organizers, next my pilot will try to maneuver our balloon around a 5-foot pole in the center of a 25-by-25 red X in the middle of the Cicero bay. Apparently, while doing these maneuvers, we might go in the water so I've been told not to wear my favorite shoes! I guess that's where the "splash" part comes in. Seventeen other balloons will be trying to do the same, but I'm hoping my pilot is one of the three lucky winners of the competition. This is the first balloon splash in Cicero, Indiana, and it's a competition that emphasizes accuracy over timing (unlike other balloon competitions). Around 9:15pm, we'll land at the Cicero Baseball Fields (behind the Hamilton North Public Library, 209 W. Brinton Street) for the balloon glow portion. This is where everyone can walk around and see all of the beautiful balloons, talk to pilots, climb in a balloon basket and just enjoy the glow given off by the balloons. I'll be going up around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. If I can, I'll tweet about the ride at @8GreatTowns on Twitter. I'm not making any promises about the tweeting thing because I might be occupied with holding on tight to the balloon basket - or maybe I'll be enjoying the moment of seeing the sunset from my unique vantage point. If you don't catch me on Twitter, I'll have a re-cap and some pictures here on the 8GreatTowns blog next week. Wish me luck and pray for clear skies! You can go on an adventure too with a ride on a tethered balloon ride, taking you 50- to 80-feet up in the air, during the balloon glow. Purchase advance tickets for $12 at the Cicero Market.
