Tuesday, September 7, 2010 by Hamilton County Tourism
GOING LOCAL Week 2010 will be celebrated in the Hoosier state from Sunday, September 5 through Saturday, September 11, 2010. This is a one week “challenge to Indiana residents, and visitors, to eat at least one Indiana locally grown or produced food at each meal during the seven day event. In honor of this statewide challenge, each day this week several “foodie people in Hamilton County will provide insights on their organization – we hope this will give you an idea on places to dine, buy foods, wines, brew and more! Today’s post is from Stephanie at Grape Inspirations Winery in Carmel: [caption id="attachment_2531" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Grape Inspirations Winery in Carmel"][/caption] Grape Inspirations is a locally owned, full service, custom winery offering a large selection of fine wines made on premise by our skilled vintners.  Wines may be purchased by the glass, bottle, or case. We are dedicated to providing our customers with the highest quality products and service available, and also offer the unique opportunity to make your own signature wine on our premises- with our expert guidance. Anyone can make wine at Grape Inspirations Winery in two simple steps. On the first visit, customers choose wines from over 40 different red, white, fruit, and specialty varieties. They mix together the wine-making ingredients in the vintner’s room and add yeast for fermentation.  Over the next 4-6 weeks, the Grape Inspirations staff monitors the fermentation process. When the wine is ready, customers return to bottle and label their personal vintage before taking it home. They can select a specially-designed label or design their own custom labels.  On-premise winemaking is a social event, and is popular with wedding parties, clubs of all kinds, and groups of friends. Grape Inspirations consultants provide help in selecting and making the wine to ensure a great result. Grape Inspirations is owned by Ron and Joyce Shoff of Carmel. They began making wine in the early 90s from fruit they grew in their backyard. Over the years their skill and knowledge base grew, allowing them to win several medals in amateur wine competitions. In the past 5 years, they have continued their winning ways, winning over 60 medals in local and international competitions.  Recently, Grape Inspirations won 7 medals in the Indy International Wine Competition, including a gold medal for Red Thunder, a Super Tuscan blend of Italian grapes. Stop by soon to make your own signature flavor! -Stephanie, Grape Inspirations Further information about Indiana food and producers, listings of local food events and farm tours, as well as recipes featuring Indiana’s fresh, local, and in-season foods can be found on the GOING LOCAL site (www.goinglocal-info.com).
