A majority of my early soccer years were spent obsessing over what post-game snack my parents would bring. Luckily for my team, my bananas versus Gushers obsession didn’t last long.  After a few years of playing recreationally, I made the transition to a travel league. During tournaments, our team parents compiled lengthy itineraries with little time for me worry about my parent’s snack choice. Our weekends were jammed packed—in between games we would discover local eateries, hit the shopping scene and make a stop at all the major attractions. My competitive days are over, but today’s athletes will have a new venue in Westfield, Indiana soon - The Grand Park Sports Complex. The City of Westfield, Indiana, hopes to drive thousands of tournament visitors to the area by constructing this new 350-acre sports facility, bordered by S.R. 32 on the south, 196th Street to the north, Spring Mill Road on the west and U.S. 31 to the east.

The complex is scheduled to be completed late in the 2012 season. With 58 outdoor fields for baseball, lacrosse, rugby and field hockey plus an indoor facility, Westfield Grand Park is expected to host many regional and statewide tournaments for adult and youth sports. The Lids Indiana Bulls, a youth baseball organization, has already agreed to host 1,500 teams throughout the spring and summer season. The tournaments are estimated to bring in over 100,000 visitors annually. The Grand Park Sport Complex will be a great addition to Hamilton County! Our 8 Great Towns already host many athletic events like the upcoming National Softball Association Fast Pitch World Series, July 25 to 29. Once the Grand Park facility opens, we’ll be able to welcome even more athletes and their families.   Coming to the area for a tournament soon? Make sure you check out our Hamilton County event calendar for a full listing of things to do.
