With dozens of unique galleries and shops, I've learned fast that the Carmel Arts & Design District is a major hub for the Carmel arts scene. This Saturday, June 11, from about 2:15 to 9 p.m., you will find Main Street in Carmel especially packed for the IU Health North Hospital Rock the District. This event is expected to bring in over 7,000 spectators to enjoy a summer day full of outdoor concerts, food, arts and shopping. The day's performers include an eclectic mix of eight bands, with music ranging from a 70s tribute to country to rock, including a personal favorite of mine, A Common Year, a must-see at the festival. And don't miss Yacht Rock Revue, a funky Atlanta-based band with Hoosier ties. Live entertainment starts at 2:15 p.m. with the last band going on stage at 6:15 p.m. Before the music starts, you can take in the other day's activities in Carmel, including the inaugural Carmel Marathon and the Carmel Farmer's Market. Saturday is also Second Saturday in the District, which means the art galleries will stay open late, until 10 p.m. Rock the District is the perfect occasion for a cheap date or family entertainment. Park and walk from Carmel High School or make a day out of it and pedal and park by parking along the Monon Trail and rollerblade or cycle to the concert. No matter how you get there, it promises to be a fun summer day at an Eight Great Towns festival!
