A Celebration of Frederick Douglass' Bicentennial - Free Noblesville Event

Join us for a public event in Noblesville Square to pay tribute to FREDERICK DOUGLASS’s triumphant return to Indiana in 1880 and the ROBERTS SETTLEMENT members who were involved. The event will include a short scene from the play, More Light: Douglass Returns, which opens on July 12 at CONNER PRAIRIE; an unveiling of a new piece of art commissioned by HAMILTON COUNTY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY to commemorate African-American history in Hamilton County, highlighting Douglass’s speech and the Roberts Settlement; and a book giveaway to youth of Douglass’s autobiography reissued for his bicentennial and part of “One Million Abolitionists” project by the FREDERICK DOUGLASS FAMILY INITIATIVE.
