On Saturdays in September, come experience the premiere of a new play, Black Pioneers: Roberts Settlement in 1836, along with a supplementary exhibition and live interpretation. You will be surprised at the story of free people of color who emigrated to Hamilton County from North Carolina in the 1830s. These pioneers bought land from the U.S. Government and established a thriving settlement among Quaker neighbors. Come enjoy the performance and witness the moment of arrival for Elijah and Kessiah Roberts in 1836. The short play for ages 8 and up will take place at the end of Prairietown past the Curtis Blacksmith Shop and Home.
Black Pioneers is part of the Giving Voice Initiative.
