When incoming LIV Golf visitors arrive this month, they’ll literally get a taste of the best Hamilton County has to offer. Welcome boxes with local products containing everything from popcorn to personal gifts to add a local flavor, and 139 handwritten welcome notes add the personal touch.
Danyele Easterhaus and Macy Troyer are the co-chairs of the visitor experience committee, where volunteer spots were filled within a week. The group worked to build a list of six pages long of ideas before curating a local and memorable experience for all visitors.
“The goal was to create an unforgettable experience for players, fans, staff, and caddies. Everyone that is coming to Westfield,” Troyer said. “Our job was to create an amazing first impression, from when they get off the airplane to when they get to Chatham Hills. We want them to feel welcome in Westfield.”
LIV Golf’s other US stops, such as Chicago, Miami, or Detroit, usually don’t put forth the local resources at the same level. The tight-knit community feel and excited volunteers promise to deliver an elite, welcoming experience. According to Easterhaus, the committee and local vendor Something Splendid focused on “showcasing specialty items we all love” while also staying sensitive to global preferences and backgrounds for visitors coming from all over the world.
“We are most proud of how we were able to identify what Westfield and Hamilton County are and present that in a really special way,” Easterhaus said. “Everything is useful and intriguing, and there is a little story behind everything. Everything is authentic Indiana, and we’ve worked really well with Hamilton County, City of Westfield, and LIV Golf to make sure that everyone is being seen and heard.”
Other programming includes a mural that will be painted inside the ropes at Chatham Hills throughout the tournament, from beginning to end. When completed, it will hang at the city’s local course, Wood Wind Golf Club. The mural’s design remains a surprise and will have a long-lasting effect locally.
“The mural will be a part of the history of Westfield. Hundreds of thousands of visitors who come here, this gives them another space to see what’s going on here,” Easterhaus said. “It will be a fun thing that engages all ages. Everyone will be able to enjoy the mural.”
A key part of the visitor experience is inclusiveness and safety. The event will have cooling stations, headphones, and calming sensory areas to ensure enjoyable experiences for all. Wheelchair and mobility device accessibility is a priority, and this is effectively communicated through course maps and signage.
Bubba Watson came to conduct a clinic with local high school golf teams for the local Special Olympics. The City of Westfield has a Mayor’s Disability Council, and this is another initiative where all efforts are made to ensure that everyone is seen and known.
“This is a part of our Hoosier hospitality, we want to show everyone that we care,” Troyer said. “We are curating a beautiful experience and trying to go above and beyond.”
Both inside the ropes and around the area, fans and participants have a lot to look forward to. The hospitality and personal touch of the community, combined with strong fan engagement and brand awareness, have made Hamilton County the championship destination for one of golf’s largest organizations.
LIV Golf’s individual championship at The Club at Chatham Hills will be in Hamilton County Aug. 15-17 and air on FOX Sports. LIV Golf tickets and hospitality packages are still available.
