Hamilton County’s Westfield has earned its stripes over the past 20 years as a national hub for amateur sports, but this time of year, the city makes room for the pros. This summer marks the 7th year the Indianapolis Colts have brought training camp to Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.
“The Colts and the City of Westfield appreciate our relationship; it’s been a great partnership,” said Matthew Deck, Director of Facilities and Events for the City of Westfield. Deck is in his second year with the city and serves as a liaison between the City of Westfield and Grand Park Sports and Entertainment (GPSE).
“Colts Camp really is a year-round event for the city,” Deck said. “Getting the fields ready, city planning and working with vendors. There are a lot of items to cover.”
Once the calendar hits June every year, the City of Westfield and the Colts meet weekly. There are facilities, work, and public safety collaboration, a true all-hands-on-deck approach to hosting the country’s largest sport for several weeks each summer.
Colts Camp runs from July 23 to August 14, before the team relocates to its Indianapolis facility with its final roster. There will be 13 practices open to the public, seven of which will be held during primetime hours. Six of those are a $5 ticket, and the August 14 joint practice with Green Bay is $10. Parking is $5 in advance and $10 at the gate. The Colts and Packers will then play a preseason game at Lucas Oil Stadium on August 16.
The training camp ticket proceeds from those open practices support USA Football’s flag football program in Indiana. Deck says that ticketing the event helps plan for the resources needed to host each practice. He said practices on average draw 3,000 fans and can peak at 8,000.
The Colts’ summer home in Grand Park is signed through 2028, meaning there are at least three more Colts Camps coming to Hamilton County.
“The City of Westfield is proud and honored to host Colts Camp,” Deck said. “We love partnering with the Colts.”
