Hamilton County History
History abounds in Hamilton County with Conner Prairie Interactive History Park, where visitors experience Indiana's past in five themed historic areas - Lenape Camp, Conner Homestead, 1836 Prairietown, 1859 Balloon Voyage and 1863 Civil War Journey: Raid on Indiana. Get immersed in the experience as you look, touch, smell, taste and hear Indiana history first-hand.
Ride the rails with the Indiana Transportation Museum along this historic Nickel Plate Rail Line. Excursions range from family outings to date-night dinner trains.
Looking for local history? Check out area historical societies (listed below) that are dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting each communities history in Hamilton County. You'll learn about Westfield's connection to the Underground Railroad, an abolishionist that lived in Sheridan and exciting discoveries from the past at Strawtown Koteewi Park.
