Hamilton County, Indiana is abuzz this fall with excitement of the much-anticipated openings of IKEA and Portillo’s in Fishers, but don’t let your craving for Swedish meatballs or Chicago dogs keep you from sampling other recent arrivals.
The culinary scene continues to grow across the county. Here are a few of the new and planned eateries you should check out this fall.

VERDE, Flavors of Mexico opened a Carmel location on Main Street, extending the family-owned restaurant’s fan base beyond its origins in Fishers. Come for the fresh-made salsa and stay for the diverse collection of Mexican family recipes passed down for generations.
Erbert & Gerbert’s Sandwich Shop in Carmel delivers on its promise of flavor-packed subs with combinations like chicken and cranberry wasabi.
Fresh to Order at Hamilton Town Center in Noblesville features scratch-made small plates as well as entrée-sized “long plates,” along with a creative selection of paninis and “outside the box burgers” made with black beans, tuna, salmon or bison.
Tequila Sunrise Mexican Restaurant just opened a Fishers location at the northeast corner of 116th Street and Allisonville Road. Look for burrito bowls and an impressive selection of cocktails.
When it’s time for dessert, head to Sub Zero Ice Cream on Main Street in the Carmel Arts & Design District. Liquid nitrogen transforms a cream base into fresh ice cream in about 15 seconds. Ah, sweet science!
A few blocks west near Crust Pizzeria Napoletana, Mammamia Gelato serves up its take on the traditional Italian frozen treat. Pizza and gelato, anyone?

Indianapolis-born Books and Brews is hiring staff for a new location in Carmel City Center. Used books, craft beer and local eats are the stars of this B&B experience, but look for plenty of special events to draw crowds.
Also in Carmel, Indie Coffee Roasters is opening a coffee shop and roastery on Main Street east of Rangeline Road. Founded in 2013, the company already sells its “handmade, roast to order, grassroots coffee” online by the bag.
Bar Louie is slated to return to Carmel as the anchor tenant in The Olivia on Main just west of Old Meridian Street. The national chain closed a location at Clay Terrace in 2012.
Clay Terrace is getting another restaurant this fall, when Prodigy Burger and Bar is expected to open in the old Ted’s Montana Grill space. The new concept from the owners of Prime 47 steakhouse promises to be family-friendly with a large outdoor patio.
Burgerhaus is bringing its take on gourmet burgers and craft beer to 98 First Ave. SW in Carmel. Founded in 2012, it also has locations in downtown Indianapolis and Schererville.
Speaking of burgers, Cunningham Restaurant Group is bringing its Bru Burger concept to Noblesville, where the casual eatery will occupy ground-floor space in the new BlueSky Technology Partners building west of the White River downtown.
