“Midwestern loveliness beams brightly here, in an area known as the Arts and Design District.”

Southern Living recently named the Carmel Arts & Design Districtone of the best small town Main Streets in America,” and it’s easy to see why. With a focus on art galleries and local shops and restaurants mixed in, this area is a must-see when visiting Carmel, Indiana.

You can’t miss the Evan Lurie Gallery, with the large brick installation out front replicating a human head. Evan Lurie Gallery focuses on work from international artists, ranging from contemporary abstract styles to realism and neo-realism. Gallery director Lurie is from New York and frequently travels to Europe.

Visit on the second Saturday of every month for a gallery walk through the district with special events. You’ll also find 17 life-like statues dispersed through the district, created by artist J. Seward Johnson Jr.
