Roberts Settlement Legacy Walk
The Roberts Settlement Legacy Walk is a newly opened experience illuminating Black history in Hamilton County. Launched on October 3, 2024, this accessible walking path offers a self-guided tour through the history of the settlement’s creation. Along the trail, visitors will find four themed interpretive stations: Roots & Migration, Progress & Perseverance, Faith & Reverence, and Legacy & Footprints, each offering insight into the region’s heritage.
The historic Roberts Settlement was founded in 1835 by the free Blacks who made Hamilton County their home. Most of these pioneers had the Roberts surname, which is how the settlement name came to be. Today, the original chapel and a cemetery continue to stand on the historic property as a reminder of Hamilton County’s first thriving Black communities.
