Deaf Heritage Day

September 26, 2026 | Conner Prairie, Fishers

Engage in a deeper understanding about the Deaf community and culture, American Sign Language, and the history of the Indiana School of the Deaf. “Amplifying Voices” will highlight two members of the Deaf community who have inspired and helped shape American history. American Sign Language interpreters from BeHeard Communications will be available throughout the grounds, allowing Deaf and hard of hearing guests to enjoy Conner Prairie with ease.

Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts | Carmel

Take in a performance at the Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts. Interpretive services will be made available upon request with a minimum two-week notice. Additionally, assistive-listening devices are available free of charge on a first come, first served basis in all venues and can be requested on arrival from any usher or Front of House staff.

For those with compatible devices, Bluetooth-based Auracast™ service is available at the Payne & Mencias Palladium. Patrons can enable their Auracast-compatible, prescriptive hearing devices through the manufacturer’s app, and a limited number of Auracast receivers and headphones are available to check out.

 

Carmel Salt Caves & Spa | Carmel

The Carmel Salt Cave is a unique experience to relax, unwind and let the salt do its magic to help with a variety of ailments. For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, the organization offers video relay services (VRS), white boards and some ASL upon request.

 

Civic Theatre | Carmel

Catch a live performance in Carmel at Civic Theare. The company offers ASL interpreters at select performances throughout the year. Additionally, the Tarkington and Studio Theatre are equipped with FM frequency assistive listening devices that are offered free of charge on a first come, first-served basis. Neck loops are available that are compatible with t-coil hearing aids

 

Kiln Creations

Get creative by painting pottery or even throwing your own pottery on a wheel at Kiln Creations. Here, you’ll find plenty of digital communication options, as well as occasional events with ASL interpreters on site.

 

Fishers Event Center | Fishers

In Fishers, you can take in a sports game or performance at the Fishers Event Center, which is equipped with an assistive listening system. The service provides real-time captions and assistive listening for all public-address announcements. Handheld assistive listening devices are available for check out at Guest Services Center on a first come first serve basis. Closed Captioning is also available.

 

Hamilton East Public Library | Fishers & Noblesville

Looking to improve your knowledge of American Sign Language? The Hamilton East Public Library system will periodically offer ASL classes, where you can learn the basics of sign language. Additional, for library programs, the staff makes every attempt to arrange to provide an ASL or other language interpreter for programs and events with a minimum of 48 hours’ notice. Requests can be sent to programs@hamiltoneastpl.org. Closed captioning can be added to virtual programs by request.

 

Carmel Clay Public Library | Carmel

The Carmel Clay Public Library equips all public service desks with Boogie Boards. These electronic writing pads allow users to write and erase messages instantly. They help library staff communicate with patrons who are nonverbal or who have hearing difficulties.

 

Penn & Beech Candle Co. | Carmel & Fishers

Pour a candle with your own custom scent with a unique visit to Penn & Beech Candle Co. They offer text-based tools, such as clipboards and pens for all guests, as well as a text line for customer service.
