Hamilton Town Center is an open-air mall in Noblesville, IN. It is easy to access just of I-69, and features over 90 restaurants and shops. There is also a movie theatre conveniently located within the outdoor mall area. You can experience a day complete with shopping, dining and a show all in one place!
There is also a playground located within the shopping center. The playground area is surrounded by seating and a few colorful outdoor tables.
Parking
Back to Top of ListThere is parking directly in front of the stores. There are several accessible spots situated within close distances to each of the shops. However, if you cannot find store front accessible parking, there are also parking lots surrounding the mall, which also have accessible parking spaces.
Getting Around
Back to Top of ListThe sidewalks at Hamilton Town Center are are a combination of brick and concrete pavers. Over time, there are some areas that have settled and make for some tricky situations in a wheelchair due to the unevenness. Overall, the curb cut outs are well done, and easy to maneuver. Due to the individual paver type of sidewalk, it is a bit of a bumpy ride.
Throughout the shopping center, there are several roundabouts surrounded by crosswalks. I have found that you really need to be careful and aware when crossing because not all cars stop for pedestrians in my experience there. In many of the crosswalks, there is a spot to wait before crossing the next lane.
Each of the crosswalks also has truncated domes.
There are a few benches to stop and rest along the sidewalks if you need to take a break from walking, as well as some outdoor seating in the food court area.
Shopping
Back to Top of ListThere is no shortage on variety of shopping at Hamilton Town Center. During my time there, I found that only a handful of the stores had accessible buttons at the entrance. Old Navy and Sephora had accessible buttons. Dicks Sporting Goods and Nordstrom Rack have automatic doors for easy entry.
I visited the HopeAnchor & Crew store while I was there. It is a nonprofit art studio that is focused on empowering women through jewelry making. While there, you can make your own bracelet or choose from one of the beautiful bracelets already made. A portion of every purchase is donated to various global and local charities.
I was so impressed not only with the mission of this shop, but also the accessibility. I was able to easily roll around and look at all the unique products they have to offer. I did not make a bracelet the day I was there but chose one that was already made. If I were to make one, the tables were accessible for my wheelchair. For warmer months, they also have outdoor tables that were accessible. They have a restroom onsite which is very convenient.
Many of the clothing stores also have accessible fitting rooms. Some I have used are Old Navy, Athleta, Loft and American Eagle. I have also experienced helpful staff at each of these locations when needing a different size, or another option to try on.
While most of the stores do not have accessible buttons to get inside, the entrances are flat and easy to navigate in a wheelchair.
Dining
Back to Top of ListThere is an abundance of dining options at Hamilton Town Center. There are many causal spots, along with more sit-down dining experiences. A few of the places I have tried are Five Guys, Stone Creek Dining Company, Qdoba and Ford’s Garage. I have found each of these restaurants to be accessible with accessible parking nearby.
Movie Theatre
Back to Top of ListEmagine Movie Theatre is part of Hamilton Town Center. While I did not visit the theatre on the day I was there, I have been many times in the past. I have found that the theatre has ample accessible seating along with companion seating, and restrooms. There is an accessible button at the entrance. The concessions area is a bit cumbersome as you must weave through the queue to get to the counter. If there is not a line, there is a side entrance where you can skip the maze.
While they do have wheelchair spaces inside the theaters, they also have ground level seating if you are able to walk but not climb stairs, or if you choose to transfer out of your wheelchair to a seat. The seats recline which is helpful for those who need to elevate their legs or just enjoy doing so. My favorite feature is the heated seat option. I don’t know about you, but I am always cold at the movie. Certainly, a luxury!
The drinks are self-serve, which is difficult to access independently from a wheelchair.
Restrooms
Back to Top of ListThere are a few shops that have restrooms, but most do not. The public restrooms are in the middle area of the mall located near the food court and large outdoor fireplace. The restroom had an automatic door that was nice for an accessible entry. Once inside, there was an accessible stall in the men and women’s restrooms. The other restrooms I looked at were inside of Old Navy and Nordstrom Rack. I found them both to be accessible, although neither has an accessible button on the outside and the doors are heavy.
Hamilton Town Center has many accessible features. As an ambulatory wheelchair user, I find it hard to navigate an outdoor mall on my own. I personally would not feel safe using the crosswalks on my own there. It is a large outdoor mall, with a lot of ground to cover, depending on how much time you choose to spend there.
The store front accessible parking is convenient if there is only one store you want to visit.
Overall, I would say that if you are in need of accessibility, you can find it at Hamilton Town Center. As with many venues, accessibility can always improve when adding features like accessible buttons on each store entrance.
It is encouraging to see that some are starting to add them at their entrances.
An outdoor mall is a great way to spend some time outdoors, while also shopping and dining.
