Hotel Nickel Plate - Derailed - interior

What inspired you to start this business, and how does it reflect your cultural background or culinary passion?

Hotel Nickel Plate's design pays homage to the Nickel Plate Railroad. Originally known as Fishers Switch, Fishers was founded in 1872 along the Nickel Plate line. In our restaurant, Derailed at Hotel Nickel Plate, we have showcased cuisines and popular food items from cities along the railroad line.

Why did you decide to open your business in Hamilton County?

Hamilton County is a vibrant and growing community that offers many of the qualities we were looking for to build a boutique hotel. With the Nickel Plate Railroad in mind, we wanted to be in the heart of a wonderful community. Being in Fishers, directly on 116th Street and in the Nickel Plate District, we found our home. We have been welcomed with open arms since we opened in April 2024.

What makes your business different from others?

Our restaurant tries to embody different cuisines from the stops along the Nickel Plate Railroad. The railroad stretched from Buffalo, New York to St. Louis, Missouri. We offer Italian Beef, inspired by Chicago, a Tenderloin, inspired by the State of Indiana, and fried ravioli, inspired by St. Louis.

How does community come together around food or drink? What does “Around the Table” mean to you?

Whether celebrating an event or spending time with loved ones, food and drinks bring everyone together. At Derailed at Hotel Nickel Plate, we offer a variety of seating options, including set-ups for intimate or casual parties. Hamilton County has been a huge part of our success. Having the community come out to celebrate birthdays, weddings and holidays with us has been one of our greatest joys. Our doors are open for your next event!

What’s next for your restaurant?

Derailed at Hotel Nickel Plate will continue to host fun events for everyone! We have been working with local breweries and distilleries to do bar takeover nights. We will be doing specialty cocktail/mocktail menus for special events and upcoming holidays. We want to continue offering events for friends and families to come out and join us for some fun! We are also making seasonal changes to our menu.
