Since opening in fall 2018, Mercantile 37 has established itself as a must-see destination in northern Hamilton County. Locals remember this historic building as a truck stop and Wheeler’s Restaurant in the 1970s – a place for travelers and those passing through on State Road 37. Now, the building is home to a showroom filled with locally-made products from more than 50 Hoosier makers and a café/market appropriately named Wheeler’s Cafe as tribute to the building’s past life.

Nick Roudebush and his father, J.R., co-founded Mercantile 37 out of their combined passions of art, pottery, repurposing, vintage-picking and creating. Nick’s wife, Emma, is the niece of the man who originally built the building. The history of the building is reflected in the antique-meets-innovative nature of the showroom. The owners have  preserved the original historic structure of the space while breathing life into it through the art and accents from local Indiana artists and makers.

Mercantile 37 is a one-stop shop for a variety of interests. Browse made-to-order lighting, furniture, upholstery, home installations and more.  In the showroom, you can find everything from home décor, furnishings and vintage items all the way to handmade gifts like bath and beauty products, stationery, jewelry and a variety of gifts. You’re bound to find a unique and memorable gift while supporting local artists and makers.

If all the browsing and shopping makes you hungry, Wheeler’s Café is the definition of “farm-to-table.” All of the produce is grown on a family-run farm right across the street, and all products in the marketplace are made locally in Indiana. Everything in the store has a homegrown touch – even the coffee is roasted in Cicero and served in a mug handcrafted by Nick.

If you’re ever passing through on State Road 37 or simply want an adventure for the day, stop inside Mercantile 37 and Wheeler’s Café to browse the storefront, sip a coffee or grab a bite to eat.
